Texas State Map
It is an understatement that Texas is a big state. Texas covers so much land area that it is larger than many countries around the world. You could gather up several of our smaller states like Rhode Island and Delaware and fit them inside of Texas with room to spare. If you set out to see all of Texas, you better plan some serious time to get the done. And be sure you bring a good map of Texas because the various locations around the state are as different as they can be.
Texas is also a very well developed state. The road systems are well developed and well maintained. But you will have to have your wits about you when you get around the major metropolitan areas such as Dallas or Houston. Without a good map, you could easily miss your exit and be going the wrong direction without even knowing it. As large as Texas is, this could be a costly mistake because turning around and going back may be a long haul.
There is so much to see and do in Texas that you should plan to stop at one of their well designed visitor information centers to get new maps. These maps can guide you to six flags over Texas in Dallas, to Sea World in San Antonio or to the NASA location for a tour if you get down to Houston. Be sure you are aware of the scale of miles on your map though because the distance from Dallas to Houston is significant and you will not be able to drive it and still have much of the day left for sightseeing.
It is easy to focus on these large cities because they have so much to offer to the traveler or the tourist. But there are so many fascinating areas of Texas that take you to new worlds. Go east into the hills of Texas and you will swear you are in the low lying regions of Colorado or New Mexico. Go west and you see flatlands where the sky is bigger than anywhere else in the world. The coast has rich communities such as Galveston and Padre Island that are destinations for thousands of college students each year. Go south west and you begin to get the fringes of the Louisiana Cajun culture with the food and music to match.
It is worth picking up not only a road map but maps of the many wonderful attractions all around Texas. These maps will wet your appetite to see so much more of Texas than you probably have time for.
